Around the World Photos
Seven Days, Around the World Photos A week ago, I was nominated on Facebook to post a photo of the natural world for the next 7 days, which struck me as taking a mini Around the World photos trip for a week. My gut response to this was twofold: 1. I love photos of the natural world, I love to take them and I am inspired when I see them. 2. Ummm, that seems like a whole lot of extra work just now when we have so much going on in the studio (We are moving! Lots more to come on

Digital Photo Pro - Spotlight on Beautiful Together
Digital Photo Pro Magazine - Spotlight on Beautiful Together Recently, I was honored to be featured in the January-February 2016 issue of Digital Photo Pro Magazine, one of my favorite photography magazines that I pick up all the time when I'm at Barnes & Noble. (Like, all the time. I seriously just need to subscribe to it at this point). A big thank you to Tracey Clark who really wrote a beautiful piece after interviewing me. The focus of the article is on photography, y

NEW Rangefinder Magazine Redefined Column
Rangefinder Magazine Redefined Column - and a Q&A Session It is quite cool to be showcased in the brand new January, 2016 issue of Rangefinder Magazine - for a couple of reasons. First of all, because it's a more personal interview, in general, and it was conducted by Rangefinder's talented Editor-in-Chief Jacqueline Tobin. But also because, starting in February, I will actually be the one writing this column! The essence of this Redefined column is in keeping with the fo

Make Your Mark on Street Orphans in Ethiopia
When we founded Beautiful Together, our 501(c)(3) all-volunteer, non-profit organization focused on supporting children without families, we knew that one of the benefits of doing this type of work would be meeting others who were doing similar work. We knew we would want to partner with a few key organizations and have found that it has been a surprisingly natural process to determine who that would be. We are currently partnering with two organizations. One of our partners

an Interview by crash taylor
A huge thanks to Crash Taylor for a very fun interview. Crash is an exceptionally talented England-based photographer who has interviewed some exceptionally intriguing people ... and then, recently, lowered his standards a bit (sweet soul) and interviewed me... You can check out the rest of the interview here. A special thanks to Australian-based Sue Bryce for the new headshot - she also photographed a few other lovely images while we were in Las Vegas, which I'll post next

Ty Pennington
I was honored (and grateful) to photograph another Extreme Makeover: Home Edition last week. This time I photographed The Creasey Family, and the designers selected more than 50 of their portraits for their brand new (gorgeous) home. Thanks, again, to Buckeye Color Lab for the fabulous, fast printing. It was a joy to watch the craziness unfold, and to be a part of it. I'll be posting the photographs of the family - including some cool extras inside the house of the desig

The New Face of Cancer Care Gallery Exhibit
I was out of town this past week teaching at the third learnfest workshop in Atlanta - a completely wonderful experience, and one that I will be posting about very soon (!!) ...But, while I was gone, I missed the opportunity to take advantage of a premium invite to the Opening Ceremony of the NC Cancer Hospital - with the governor and a variety of notable notables presiding - and the premier of the large-scale gallery exhibit we have spent months working on, alongside UNC H

Premier Baby & Ana Elisa
Was lovely to see the new issue of Premier Baby Magazine, which always features our images ... this time including a sweet story about little Ana Elisa coming home from Ecuador. It was also particularly heartening, too, as this story runs exactly four years after the last story they published about my gorgeous Caleb coming home from Ethiopia. Thanks, Premier Baby, for the baby love :)

italy
I just returned from a beautiful trip to Italy, happily blending work with pleasure and thoroughly enjoyed capturing some wonderful collections of stock photography throughout Rome, Florence and the surrounding countryside, as well a glimpse at the coastline. It's always such a joy to travel throughout Europe. I really love their complex/extraordinarily simple train system. Thanks to Lisa Walter for coming along for the ride :) I will be posting some more photographs soon

the book, an update
A huge thank you to all those who have bought my book, The Art of Children's Portrait Photography, and have written in such wonderful notes, as well as left some great reviews. Have also greatly appreciated reading these editorial reviews: San Francisco Book Review: Tamara Lackey shows us how to do it right. All levels of photographers who wish to break into the children's photography market can benefit from this book, as Lackey covers the basics of portrait photography, t

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Behind The Scenes)
A huge thank you to Rex, the head honcho camera guy, what the heck is your actual title?, on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for leading the tour around all the cool stuff while we were shooting when the show came to North Carolina a few weeks ago to film. (Rex and I are actually discussing plans for a very cool new project that I'll be sharing more details about soon.) The actual show will be airing this week - so look for a lot of these scenes as they unfold on video. In
