Endurance Magazine – March Issue
I had a chance to meet and photograph Brian for the cover of Endurance Magazine's March issue and learn more about why he cycles with such passion. Brian's older brother, Aaron, had been diagnosed with a brain tumor when they were both young boys. He was told that with is particular type of tumor, he would only have up to seven years of life left. Aaron lived another seven years after that diagnosis. He died in 2005. Soon afterwards, their mother, Karen, joined the board

issue 7
I offered to write a piece for Design Aglow's Issue 7 not that long ago but with a little caveat - I wanted to interview my good friend Jerry Ghionis and write the article in the way that felt more like how I truly saw him. Design Aglow was on board, Jerry was on board ... I had apparently brought the board - and I had a great time putting together the piece. The November Cover of Endurance Magazine
First of, thanks so much to all those who went out or went online to buy the book. Apparently quite a lot of you, as it is still holding steady, overall, at the #1 in category (hourly fluctuations, ahhh, it's like the stock market!) on Amazon. So cool - thank you!!! This month's issue of Endurance Magazine features author Nicholas Sparks, who I met at his home in New Bern and photographed in the area. Since our shoot, his new book, The Lucky One, debuted at #1 on The Ne

The Art of Children’s Portrait Photography
Woah! It's crazy that this is true, but this is true... I have been so consumed with this intense & beautiful adoption, this intense & beautiful election, and my intense & beautiful client work catch up, that something huge happened this week...and I kinda missed it: My book released!!! WOW!!! The official book release date was November 1st, 2008, and it is apparently in bookstores (not that I'm there to see it) throughout the country - and in bookstores arou

Rangefinder’s October Issue & Platform at WPPI!
I just received the October issue of Rangefinder Magazine, and I love the layout of my follow-up article about the general election! This is not a re-post, by the way - the last time I put up an article, a few posts ago, it was September. This time it's October. See: totally different months. I do think it's so interesting how life can just open to what we are seeking. I remember being struck by how cool it was to be showcased in last November's issue. Less than one y

Nicholas Sparks
Nicholas Sparks has a few things on his radar right now - the new movie, "Nights in Rodanthe", the new book, "The Lucky One" and more than a few other projects that have not been officially announced yet but sound quite cool. All worthy of great editorial coverage. We met at his house in New Bern, North Carolina. My fearless Studio Director, Lisa Walter, accompanied me on the shoot simply so we could knock out about five hours of administrative work on the trip there &

Rangefinder Magazine, September 2008
I am so excited about the new article I wrote for Rangefinder Magazine, "World Changers", actually developed from a section I created on this site (under "the display case" header) about some amazingly exceptional people I have had the honor of photographing. I have received some feedback in the past after posting a smaller version of the article about my photography in last November's issue that it was too small to read. And apparently just posting a link to the pdf was si

A Portrait of Michelle Obama
A big thank you to all the wonderful people I met yesterday - what an incredible campaign staff! Big thanks to J and A for continuing the exhausting work - you are both so great at what you do. And, hey, I didn't lose my clearance pin this time :) To Ms. Butler, I will be sending you the portraits of Dr. Maya Angelou and Michelle Obama for your archival work. I loved the opportunity of photographing such phenomenal women together. Just the gift of being there with them t

Senator Obama, again :)
After I posted about my experience photographing the McCain-Palin rally, the VP announcement, I received several messages asking where the Obama photographs were to balance that out. Funny because I got the same messages in reverse every time I posted my Senator Obama photographs. Dramatic sigh. But, just to keep current, here are several more from a couple weeks ago that I haven't had a chance to post. A few of these will be appearing in the October issue of Rangefinder
