Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep
Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep is a powerful organization that is also difficult to discuss. Working with NILMDTS has been an honor, yes. It is also heart-wrenching for all involved. I kept the application to join on my desk for a few years, willing myself to have the courage to fill it out and send it in for approval. I finally did, and I started participating after speaking with Aimee Bickers, who had already done 20 of these shoots when we spoke. I couldn't imagine how sh

my work in O Magazine, Vogue & Elle!
A bridal portrait I photographed of the gorgeous Carrie Williamson was picked up for exclusive usage (with the blessings of Carrie, of course!) by a cosmetics company, and it's been great fun to see them use this image as the sole core-message photograph in their national campaign. I'd seen it last month in Ladies Home Journal and Martha Stewart (I am really enjoying Martha Stewart nowadays :) And then I saw that it appeared in Vogue Magazine and Elle Magazine this month,

our friend ali & shriner's hospital
My daughter & I head out to Shriner's Hospital for Children in St. Louis every year. I'm always so impressed with the medical work they do there and how much of the organization's focus is to simply do good for others. It's a boring plane ride, so we had a bit of fun with music and a point & shoot... Every time we go, we get to meet some amazing people. Many are overcoming obstacles more difficult than many of us ever have to consider in our day-to-day lives. Sop

The Franklin 5000 & The Tar Heel 10-Miler
After months and months of negotiating for approval to run through Chapel Hill and Carrboro, Endurance Magazine finally got permission to host the inaugural Tarheel 10-Miler, a 10-mile running event, benefiting the YMCA Strong Kids Foundation. Securing this race was quite a coup (Congrats, Steve, Thys and the rest of the staff!!), and the 10-mile race will join the Franklin 5000, which will be the second year that Endurance Magazine has hosted a 5K race down Franklin Street,

head of red
I've had blonde hair my whole life, so when I walked into the hair salon a couple weeks ago and they asked what I wanted, I thought I'd try a different look. I decided to (gasp) darken my hair to auburn, and I'm totally loving it. Mixed reviews from others, though... 1. My daughter cried when she saw it ("we don't look anything alike any more!") - but later, when she was watching Hannah Montana, she commented that it kinda looked like Miley Cirus' hair color, and she was

just a minute...
One of the coolest things about reading to your kids is finding awesome trivia books, so that you can all geek out together. You get to present cool, goofy information to your children with all the fun pictures while also learning cool, goofy facts. I can tell you with certain detail how skin breathes, for instance. Or how electric eels use their electricity (and that it is stored above their eyes!!) I also know how to properly hold a baby bunny and all about how smell d

Happy Valentine's Day :)
A happy, happy Valentine's Day to all of you!! And a special one to my sweet, wonderful, oh-so-good-lookin' hubby - just took his photo for the new Endurance Magazine website, but I don't think he expected to see it here :) And OF COURSE an extra special, big, big Happy Day to my two goofball, dancin' babies :) Every day with this family is a huge gift of love, and for that I will always be so grateful...

Race: The Power of An Illusion
I very recently discovered this fascinating 3-part documentary about race in society, science & history, which asks quite a compelling question - how valid are your beliefs about the human species? This is a PBS documentary, which I've just ordered, but have already read a lot about on their website. Some of the many major concepts that are explored in detail: Race is a modern idea. Ancient societies did not divide people according to physical differences, but accordi

One Million Views and Just As Many Words to Define It
Sometime last night, we surpassed one million page views on this blog. That's a bit astounding to me, as this blog is only 4 3/4 months old. *(I measure time like my children do now. My son is not 3 and he's not 3 1/2, but he's not quite 4, so of course he is 3 3/4 years old).* We weren't even tracking statistics on our old blog, and I barely look at my website traffic, but these stats have been really cool to follow. So as my mind boggled a bit at one million page vie
