charlotte & family
I don't take for granted some of the beautiful weather we get for outdoor portrait sessions in Chapel Hill, North Carolina ... especially now that we're in the thick of heat-advisory weather. It's literally 100 degrees today, yech! But on this late Spring day, I was lucky enough to spend a breezy, sunshiney afternoon tracking Miss Charlotte as she bounced around lovely Coker Aboretum with her mom and brother Marshall in tow... with Big Brother Marshall :) (altogether now!

happy D-A-D day (and week!)
I had a lively shoot with three little girls & their lovely mama in The Marina area of San Francisco this morning. We had a wonderful time, especially running into the freezing water at Crissy Field Beach. (Thinking the water will be a bit more temperate at Bald Head Island's beaches when I'm shooting there exactly one week from today.) Since it's Father's Day (aw, heck, let's give them the whole week!), the girls crafted a special message to D.A.D., using some good ol

NAPCP Retreat
I will be heading out to Napa Valley, California later this June for the National Association of Professional Children's Photographers Retreat. I was thrilled to be asked to deliver the Keynote Presentation for the retreat, which will be offering a few days of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation for portrait photographers who work really hard at what they do - not just in their photography careers but in the way they tie it all together with the rest of the lives. Adelyn … and her Crew
Last post, you met Zoe ... Well, here's her sweet baby cousin, Adelyn : Adelyn's mommy is Lauren, whose wedding I photographed a couple years ago ... Mommy & daughter share that whole gorgeous smile thing :) And, just to be sure you're following along, Lauren is sisters with Kellie (from my previous post), who is the mommy of Zoe ... (and like Lauren, they both seem a wee bit smitten with little Adelyn ... who, frankly, seems to be slightly smitten with her frock :)

Zoe
Meet personality-rich Zoe ... Zoe's mommy is Kellie, whose wedding I photographed in Raleigh five years ago. I wasn't thinking of this image when I tracked Zoe toddling down the stairs in her tutu - but as I put together this triptych, another image came to mind, shot well before Zoe came to be ... that of another beautiful girl in her fun dress-up outfit, also showing off her personality on a set of gritty stairs ... Kellie, circa 2005: Next up - Kellie's sister, Lauren,

(on) the other side of the lens
One of the major advantages of being at an international convention, surrounded by a multitude of talented photographers from all over the world, is that you have this terrific opportunity to line up a shoot, update the headshots, and get some real experience on the other side of the lens. Which, as any good shooter knows, goes a long way towards bettering you as an overall photographer. I had a terrific opportunity to do just that when I met up with Sue Bryce, an Australian
